Our Story
Where it all began…..
In April 1992, Sue Sowerby saw a gap in the marketing & communications market and decided to set up her own agency. It wasn’t the best of timing – in fact it was the year of a recession, but with a determined mindset and 29 of her own clients, The Sowerby Group was born – and 7 months later, so was her baby boy Ben! This new business idea had to work – didn’t it? With a Unilever plc background in Public Relations and an exciting career within a range of London advertising agencies – and international ones, the risk paid off!
In the larger ad agencies, Sue witnessed clients being passed ‘down the line’ time and time again so in her own agency Sue made a commitment to ensure that each and every client felt valued and special. 29 years on, we still have some of those original 29 clients on board with us. This is a massive testimony to our strength in such a competitive industry. In fact we are sure there can’t be many female-owned independent agencies operating throughout the UK whose businesses have stood the test of time throughout a 29 year period.
Sure…being an established business such as ours, we receive many third party approaches asking if we are ready to merge, acquire, sell or buy, but for now, we remain independent and proud!
Our business is niche. We win clients predominately through recommendation and referral. We are regularly viewed as an extension of our clients’ own internal marketing, digital and HR teams.
Today and everyday we remain committed to impressing our clients with ideas, digital strategies and creative design work while remaining focused on providing exceptional customer service and a quality product – all executed within suitable timescales and budgets.
