When Sue Sowerby met Kelly Molson at a regional network event, they clicked immediately. With so much creative talent between both companies, we decided to form a Special Design Projects Division called Sowerby.rc

And what a great way to start a new partnership! Sowerby.rc were the Overall Winners at the recent ‘Communic8 in Business Awards 2008’ in the best Brochures/Annual Reviews category.

Our client, Care Aspirations, a specialist Independent Healthcare Provider for adults with a learning disability was thrilled. The judge’s comments were: “We had seen many brochures, but none that looked as nice as this winning publication.” It was described as “feeling caring and safe, with a good ‘feel’ to it – not just in terms of content, but because of this stylish recycled paper cover. It was a very innovative way of producing an Annual Report, with beautiful design and photography and minimal text”.

15 years is a long time in business - wow, how the business has changed! So it was an ideal time to celebrate our 'from kitchen table to stately home' success. In the early days of 1992 when the company first started, we had one Amstrad computer, one fax machine, one filing cabinet, operated from a small cottage in Epping and had one member of staff who did the media buying, ad writing, design of advertisements, book-keeping and everything else associated with a budding ad agency! The grounds of the 17th century stately home/country house (and also our office premises) was the ideal venue for holding our 15th Anniversary Crystal Ball.

Attended by around 150 clients, media representatives and associates, the Sowerby team entertained their guests in a fantastic marquee, complete with 'twinkly ceiling', and music courtesy of the amazingly talented band 'Espree'. Guests enjoyed sumptuous food and drink, revelled in the mystique of a highly talented table magician, gyrated like Travolta on the dance floor, and immersed themselves in the excitement of the Blackjack and Roulette tables for a bit of fluttering fun!

What are the qualities needed to win a 'Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies to Work For' award? Sue Sowerby was able to find out first hand when she was invited to the Battersea Events Arena in March as a guest of Stephen Hill, Executive Chairman of Hill McGlynn & Associates. The company, a leading construction recruitment specialist, has built a formidable reputation by reaching 12th position in the Sunday Times 2007 awards. In 2006, Hill McGlynn did exceptionally well by being ranked 78th. The company's achievement is even more remarkable as, not only did it leap 66 places from last year, it also collected the prestigious 'Most Improved Company' award - the only recruitment organisation in the list to receive a coveted special award.

Sowerby has been working closely with Hill McGlynn and providing recruitment and corporate solutions since 2001. Sue says: "It's a fantastic account to work on and each and every team member at Hill McGlynn is enthusiastic, focused and highly professional.
