Briefing your creative design/web agency

An agency can be only as good as the brief you give… Here are our tips for providing briefs.

Brochure Design

Step 1 – The brief

You need to tell us as much as you possibly can when briefing. Preferably written briefs, however

  1. What do you want your brochure to achieve?
  2. Do you have a budget?
  3. What are the timescales?
  4. How many pages?
  5. Bespoke or standard templates?
  6. Size of brochure
  7. Use of colours
  8. Use of imagery
  9. Are there any samples you like?
  10. Are there any samples you dislike?
  11. Who will you be supplying your brochure to?
  12. How many brochures do you require?
  13. Do you want extras such as Spot UV, foil block, embossing?
  14. Content pagination

Step 2 – Concepts

Our concepts presented to you will be in accordance with your brief. We may feel the need to present you with a ‘rough’ concept to work on to ensure that what we are producing is exactly what you are looking for.

Our concepts will be creatively presented and wherever possible, we would ideally like to do this in person. However, if diaries and time do not allow, we will forward via email with a storyboard of how we see the brochure work. If you are looking for a new stock for your brochure, we will also source and supply examples.

At this stage, we will also provide you with print costs (free of charge) if required.

Step 3 – Copywriting

The written message is key. With a team of talented copywriters we can provide this service to you, however we appreciate that sometimes you, the client, would like to write the copy yourself for quality purposes.

Step 4 – Proofreading

When you invest in time and money for a wonderful brochure – the last thing you want to see, once printed, is a mistake. Especially if a competitor or client picks this up. At Sowerby, we will thoroughly check the copy for any spelling errors and / or grammatical mistakes. Your brochure will be proof read by at least 2 members of our team.

Step 5 – Preparing the artwork

Once the brochure has been approved for print, we will ensure that the artwork is 100% correct for print. We will make sure that images are high resolution, that there are no ‘widows’, that all fonts have been embedded, that colours are correct and so on. Our studio is well equipped in supplying appropriate print ready artwork.

Step 6 – Off to the printers!

All you have to do is sit back and relax. We have our own preferred print suppliers who offer fantastic costs to Sowerby clients. We also appreciate that there are occasions where you would prefer to use your own printer so will happily liaise with them too.

We send lots of jobs to the printers every single day, so you can put your trust in us to ensure that you get a lovely job done. We will even go to the printers to complete a ‘Pass for Press’!

Step 7 – Delivery

We will constantly keep in touch with the printers to ensure that we are on target to hit the delivery deadline. If there is any delay, we promise to inform you as soon as we hear.

Your product will then be delivered to wherever you need them!

Step 8 – Are you happy?

We will follow up to ensure that you are happy with your project. Client service is important to us and a happy client = a happy agency team at Sowerby.

It's great to read something that's both enjoyable and provides solutions.
